The K–12 Interactive Library

52 books, one for every grade and subject from kindergarten through twelfth. Each is a single page that opens in any browser, works offline, needs no login, and is built to be used rather than read.

Four format bands, keyed to reading ability rather than to age. A book for a five-year-old and a book for a seventeen-year-old are not the same object with different words in it. The youngest band is audio-first and tap-only because its reader cannot read; each band above it hands more of the work to the text.

Grades 3–5 · Reading begins · 12 books

Short chapters in large type, one interactive per idea, and a read-aloud button that is still there when it is needed.

Reading to Learn'+esc(B.sub)+'Third grade is the year reading changes job. Up to now you learned to read. From here you read to learn - and that needs a different set of tools.Open → Multiplying and Fractions'+esc(B.sub)+'Two big ideas arrive in third grade - multiplication and fractions - and almost everything later leans on them. This book takes both slowly.Open → Forces and Living Things'+esc(B.sub)+'Why things move, why animals look the way they do, and how rocks remember creatures nobody ever saw.Open → Communities and Maps'+esc(B.sub)+'How places work, why people settled where they did, and what it takes to share a town with other people.Open → Reading, Writing, Thinking'+esc(B.sub)+'Fourth grade asks not just what a text says but what it means, how it is built, and whether you should believe it.Open → Big Numbers and Fractions'+esc(B.sub)+'Multi-digit multiplication, long division, fractions that actually add up, and the first proper look at angles.Open → Energy, Earth and Life'+esc(B.sub)+'Where energy comes from and where it goes, how waves and light work, and how the ground under your feet got that way.Open → Regions and Government'+esc(B.sub)+'Who was here first, why people moved, how government was built, and how to research the place you actually live.Open → Evidence and Argument'+esc(B.sub)+'Quoting accurately, spotting how writers steer you, and building an argument somebody would take seriously.Open → Decimals, Fractions and Volume'+esc(B.sub)+'The year fractions stop being pictures and start being numbers you calculate with - plus volume, coordinates and reading data honestly.Open → Matter, Earth and Ecosystems'+esc(B.sub)+'What everything is made of, where a tree's mass really comes from, and how energy and matter move through a living world.Open → The American Story'+esc(B.sub)+'United States history from before 1492 to 1900, told with the parts that are usually left out put back in.Open →
