Round one, the pulse round. Sixty seconds of fast questions. Each right answer pays 2,000 points, and three in a row pays a bonus on top. A wrong answer costs you nothing but time.

Round two, the three offers. The Pacemaker sizes you up and names three figures. Take the big one and you start one rung from its reach. Take the safe one and you start three rungs clear, for far fewer points.

Round three, the ladder. Eight rungs, and a clock on every question. You answer, then the Pacemaker answers the same one. Every right answer moves that player down one rung. Reach the bottom and the points are still in play. Let it catch you and the round is over.

Round four, the final chase. Ninety seconds to stack up rungs, then the Pacemaker gets ninety seconds to run them down. Every time it slips you get one shot to shove it back a rung.
