The Fundal Clock, the Lochia and the Weighed Loss

Normal involution runs to a timetable precise enough to predict: to the umbilicus by twelve hours, then about one centimetre — one fingerbreadth — a day. Drive the clock and watch the fundus descend, then document what you actually palpated in U/1 notation and let the bench tell you whether it fits. Read a lochia pattern, weigh the loss instead of guessing at it, and plan a perineum whose comfort measures reverse at the 24-hour mark.

Work the involution up

Palpate with the bladder empty: patient supine, knees flexed, lower hand splinting just above the symphysis, upper hand palpating the fundus.
