Fever: Resetting the Thermostat

A fever isn't a broken thermostat — a pyrogen deliberately turns it up. Drag through one fever episode and watch the hypothalamic set point jump, the body chase it with chills, then fall and break in a sweat.

Key idea: in fever the thermostat is not broken — the set point itself is raised. The body then works to reach it (chills), and when the set point drops, works to leave it (sweats).
