Jordan’s introduction, as delivered
“Hi everyone, my name is Jordan and today I’m going to talk about medication interruptions. Interruptions are a serious problem that affects all of us in healthcare. I did a lot of research on this and read some studies. Basically what I want to say is that interruptions during medication administration are associated with more errors, and unlike most patient-safety problems, this one has fixes a nurse can use next shift. I’ll go over what the research found, why the interruptions happen anyway, and three things you can do with your hands and your voice tomorrow.”
…then straight into point one, with no transition sentence.
Jordan’s conclusion
“In conclusion, like I said before, interruptions during medication administration are associated with more errors, and this one has fixes a nurse can use next shift. First I talked about the research, then I talked about why it happens, then I talked about the three things. Oh — and I should mention some hospitals use red vests for this. Anyway, thanks so much for listening, thanks. Any questions?”
