Simplified model for learning. Each offspring is drawn at random using Mendel's rules and the chosen map distance. Without double crossovers, recombination frequency equals map distance divided by 100 (at most 50 percent). With double crossovers on, the bench uses the Haldane mapping function, recombination = ½(1 − e−2d/100), so far apart genes show less than their map distance. The linked cross is a testcross with a b vg / b vg male (male fruit flies do not cross over). Flies are drawn larger than life and the timing is sped up.
Problems are randomly generated for practice. Probabilities can be typed as a fraction (1/4), a decimal (0.25) or a percent (25%). Recombination frequencies and map distances are typed as a percent or in cM, to one decimal place.
